One day I found a cheerio that a friend of mine and her 9 month old son left on on the seat of our highchair after having dinner with us the previous night. I know this is not sanitary at all, but I decided to try an experiment and give the cheerio to Preston because he was refusing my feeble attempts at feeding him his breakfast. He opened his mouth willingly and within a few minutes had eaten the entire thing and was ready for more. From that day on I've been feeding him only baby cereal and the rest of his food is quite solid. I find this to be funny because he completely skipped the baby food stage but I guess that his seven teeth could be part of it. He even tries to chew his cereal, I can hear his teeth clicking together whenever he eats it. Some of his favorite foods are peas (which I find repulsive), bananas, apples (yes he eats them raw), sweet potatoes, squash and cheerios. He also loves drinking water from his sippy cup. He thinks he's older than he is. By the way, today is his 7-month birthday. Happy birthday Preston!
Okay, so all of this was just leading up to my funny story for the day, at least Gabe and I found it entertaining. Preston has been accustomed to falling asleep as I nurse him and lately I have gotten him to stop as I mentioned in my last post. Maybe he's trying to make up for his lack of sleeping while eating time. The other night as Gabe was feeding him, and he was willingly eating rice cereal and bits of apples Gabe mentioned to me that Preston was looking a little sleepy. It was not nap time and bedtime was still an hour and a half away, but sure enough mid-bite this is what happened.
He just grabbed onto the tray and started snoring.
Eventually his head began to droop and 30 min. later he woke up ready to finish his meal.
I don't know if this is normal behavior for a baby or not. I guess we'll have to keep working on his sleep schedule. I hope he doesn't turn out to be narcoleptic or something. It is a possibility, right?

I think you're safe. I've known other babies to fall asleep in their high chairs. It sure is funny though! :)
ReplyDeleteoh, Elora fell asleep like that all the time,we have pictures.
ReplyDeleteThats funny that he doesn't like the baby food. We pretty much skipped that with Elora as well, because she prefered to chew food that we had.
Joshua loves to chew things too (give him a cracker and he goes to town!)But we can't share our food with him very often because we think he might be allergic to tomatoes, which are in our food about every other day.
Usually, we give him a bite of babyfood/cereal, between pieces of bread we leave on his tray for him to pick up himself.
ps I think we gave you those bibs at your baby shower!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know he's more normal then I thought. :)
ReplyDeleteTearese, I hope Joshua gets over his tomato allergy, that would be sad. They are sooo yummy.
That is sooo cute!! (And I'm glad you found good use for the leftover cheerio, LOL!). :):)
ReplyDeleteBubbers hasn't fallen asleep in his high chair, but this makes me wish he would because Preston is so incredibly cute sitting there snoozing with food in his mouth! :)
that's way too cute. isabelle use to curl up on the floor and go to sleep. she's done that a few times lately but she has never fallen asleep in her high chair after eating. still funny!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the bibs Tearese, we love them!
ReplyDelete... and thanks again for the cheerio Heidi. You'll have to let me know if Bubbers does ever fall asleep while eating. I think he might love food too much for that though. :)
Andrea that's cute about Isabelle, isn't it nice when kids can fall asleep on their own?
