This week has been a crazy one. Preston started acting really funny on Sunday night when we were trying to get dinner ready for some new friends in the ward we had invited over. He didn't want to play, he just kept crawling over to me crying and pawing at my legs to be picked up just like my poodle Elliot (he was named when we got him) used to do when I was growing up. It's amazing how similar children are to pets in some respects. :) See what I mean?

They both have the same stare.
The doctor told me that Preston had croup so they gave him a steroid to open up his throat. She also told me that the second night is usually worse which proved to be true when he was up every two hours and it took us an hour to calm him down and get him back to sleep every time he woke up. It wasn't fun to say the least. He still had a fever on Friday as well as goopy eyes (gross, I know) so I took him back to the doctor and she told me he had an ear infection and a sinus infection, I feel so bad for him. At least he's now on antibiotics and doing much better, but now he's refusing to nurse unless it's the middle of the night. He just bites me every time I try, I don't know what to do... at least he'll eat peas and cheerios I guess.
All of this leads to another problem, now I have Mastitis which is a kind of breast infection. I got it when Preston was a week old and I swear it was worse than giving birth. Luckily this time I caught it at the beginning and my temperature only got up to 102.3 before I was able to get an antibiotic. I'm just lucky to have such a wonderful husband who has been taking care of us even though he's not feeling very well either, mostly from lack of sleep. He even brought flowers home to me on Thursday because he knew I was having such a tough time. :)
On Friday, before all of this mastitis junk I was feeling much better because Preston slept well the night before. He also took a long nap in the morning so I was able to shower which was very exciting because I didn't even get dressed the day before. He just kept sleeping so I was able to do my hair, and he was still sleeping... so for the first time since before he was born I was able to paint my toenails. I know this might sound silly but it was the best feeling in the world! I was so excited I would have taken a picture of my pretty paint job for you but unfortunately our fairly new camera stopped working this week on top of everything else.
Before Gabe and I got married my mom and I would go together to get pedicures every once in a while. This all started because my aunt who is a manager at a flower shop in Salt Lake talked us into it and we got hooked. Since I don't have any recent pictures of us together, here is one from my wedding where I'm fixing her hair I think, we're such girly girls. You can see my dad on the left side too.
Anyway, ever since I got married and moved to Washington I haven't had a great urge to get pedicures because it was something my best friend (my mom) and I do together and it's no fun going alone. Which is why my toenails have been lacking in beauty ever since, especially when I was pregnant and my belly got in the way.Even though this has been one of the craziest weeks of my life, I'm glad that I was able to do something at least semi-productive and everyone is slowly but surely getting better so I know the end is near.

Alycia-
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and put some of Royce's pics on your blog. I've made a CD of the pics for your mom so she can take them to be printed wherever she'd like. Your brother is so much fun, we're going to miss him when he leaves. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me at vivienvanleeuwen@yahoo.com.

Oh, Alycia--I'm so sorry for you! What an incredibly tough week. I'm so glad it's getting better and I'm so glad you were able to paint your toenails. :) (And how sweet of Gabe to get you flowers--what a wonderful husband!)
ReplyDeleteWow! Doesn't it feel like when it rains, it pours?! Poor Preston and poor you! It's so hard taking care of a sick baby and even harder when you are sick. At least your toenails look pretty!
ReplyDeletesorry about the tough week! i hope you are feeling better though. i know how it goes. i hope this week will be better for you!
ReplyDeletePoor Preston, and poor you! (I'm echoing Heidi here, but I mean it!). Gabe, you take care of them, okay?
ReplyDeleteI went last week for a spa pedicure for Gene Juarez... it was AWESOME. I loved it... however... there's only room in their spa room for one person at a time... so if you do a spa pedicure... you'd have to go alone! I think you can do the other pedicures that they have with friends though. My pedicure still looks fresh, even though it was done last week... normally my polish would be chipped and coming off right now!
Alycia, you stinker! You call me when you're having a time like that! You hardly mentioned anything on Saturday too! I'm sorry, really I'm feeling guilty that I didn't call or ask more. I hope you are both feeling better! Let me know if I can do anything.
ReplyDeleteIm so glad that you guys are feeling better! My heart broke everytime Preston coughed! So Sad!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we will see you soon!
Thanks everyone for your comments, it feels really good just to have such great friends! :)
ReplyDeletei hope that you are all feeling much better this week. and i hope that you will still be able to go on your trip, and not be sick. nothings worse than being sick and traveling.
ReplyDeleteI was out of town when you posted this, and didn't see it till now!I hope everythings okay now. With Elora, I had a plugged duct and thrush, those problems are no fun.
ReplyDeleteElora is really sick right now too, I just hope Joshua doesn't get sick again. Its scary when babys are sick!
Tearese, that must have been awful, my mom said thrush is the worst thing ever! I hope Elora gets feeling better and Joshua doesn't get sick too.
